A NOTE ON SURRENDERS

November 2019: We are currently not accepting surrenders at this time. Our wait list is over 80 guinea pigs long. We do not feel comfortable adding to it knowing we may never get to you. If it is an emergency please fill out the surrender application and contact us on Facebook, we will not be checking the applications unless you contact us on Facebook and tell us you have sent in an applications. Otherwise we will reopen the applications to everyone when the current wait list gets more manageable.

At this time if you need immediate assistance you may contact the Oregon Humane Society.

When you fill out a surrender form you will either get an email asking if you want to be added to the wait-list or we will contact you about the situation. If you do not respond to the emails and or texts there is nothing we can do, if you do not respond to the email asking if you would liked to be placed on the wait-list you will not be added. If either phone or email does not work for you please state so in the addition comments section of the surrender form.

We highly recommend due to the long wait time that every month or two you are on the wait list either check in or resubmit so we know you are still interested in surrendering your guinea pigs. We get a lot of surrenders and keeping in contact can help make sure you don't get lost in crowd.

Once we have received your surrender form we will contact you with an approximate timeline regarding when we may be able to intake your pet/s. We always have a waiting list for intakes but please know that we ALWAYS get to everyone on the list. Please be patient. We can only take in new animals when we have space so that means some guinea pigs will need to be adopted first before we can take in new guinea pigs. In the meantime we will keep your surrender application on file and see if we can connect your animals with forever homes. Sometimes people seek out specific colors, ages, or breeds of pigs and we will try to act as an intermediary in these cases.

If you are needing to surrender your animals by a specific date please also fill out a surrender form at OHS. They also often have a wait list, but they are a larger organization and may be able to help you sooner.

STRAYS: Please note, if you find a stray or dumped animal you must contact your county shelter. Most counties require that found animals be held for a certain amount of time before they are able to be legally adopted in case an owner comes forward. Not every county is set up for small animals, and they may reach out to us or another shelter for help. Multnomah County is definitely set up for small animal intakes.

If you have witnessed animal cruelty or neglect you must fill out an investigation report through the
Oregon Humane Society.  OHS Investigations is made up of law enforcement officers who take cruelty to small animals seriously.
