The Process
Here’s what we do, how we do it, and why it’s important:
After we receive your application, we read your responses very carefully, and send a reply unique to you. If it seems that you might not have the right kind of set-up for a new cavy family member, or that you don’t have a vet lined up, or have questions about diet, we want to go over these things with you. It’s not to annoy you with bureaucracy and delays. It’s to make sure that we adopt the right pigs to the right homes. In fact, you’ll probably talk with a PGPR volunteer several times before we set up a date for you to meet the pigs.
Your guinea pig date will occur at one of our foster homes, and we’ll bring you all the pigs we have available. You’ll get lap time with each eligible pig or pair of pigs and see who you connect with. Some adopters come in with a specific pig in mind and leave with a different pig – personality comes into play quite a bit! If you’re looking to pair your pig with her own pet, then she’ll be placed in a clean pen and presented with eligible singles to see who she might click with.

Fees
We will ask that you pay an adoption fee of $35 for each guinea unaltered female or male. Fees vary for pairs, and increase to $125 for spayed females. This sounds like a lot, but it’s actually an amazing deal. The Rescue pays at least $180 per spay and we are willing to eat some of the cost because we are more vested in keeping these pigs healthy and finding them wonderful homes than in breaking even. Adoptions fees are waived if you have already donated that amount (or more).
